No Other Gospel - Part I
The 9th book of the New Testament, the letter to the Galatians, is arguably the earliest written letter by the apostle Paul.
It contains some gems! We get the phrase, “You reap what you sow” from Galatians 6:7. We find the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23. Any ideology of spiritual hierarchy in the family of believers is destroyed in Galatians 3:26-29.
We will be covering all of these and more in our next sermon series on this important letter. The heart of the matter, however, is Paul’s defense of the gospel – which is that we are justified before God ONLY by His grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ Jesus alone. In fact, any message suggesting that the gospel includes “add-ons” is really no gospel at all. Paul was so serious about this that he let the Galatians know: “… even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!” (Galatians 1:8)
Let’s see what this letter has to say not only to first century believers, but to us today.
